Product Review: Mineral Essences Powder Foundation
By: Meg
Cost: 26.00
About a month ago I was in CVS' high-end beauty department, Beauty 360 (available at only select CVS stores), looking at the 100% pure display. I had about 5 products I was juggling and heading to the counter to check out. On my way I just happened to glance over at another display for a brand called Mineral Essesnces. It looked like just another rip-off of Bare Escentuals but for some reason I picked up a container of their powder foundation and looked at the ingredients label. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! This was no rip-off, this stuff was even better than BE! It contains green tea and vitamin C, along with Alpha Lipoic acid, which is a strong anti-oxidant. There are no additives or harsh chemicals and no talc, which is in most powder foundations.
As a foundation this stuff work great. I have really been impressed with the result. It's goes on silky-smooth and light. I was able to find a color that was light enough for my super pale skin, and believe it or not, they have one shade lighter- simply unheard of! Even though it feels very light, it has great coverage that doesn't look patchy or uneven. Redness just seems to vanish when I buff this on. Another thing I just love about this is that it makes my skin look more even with it looking flat and one dimensional.
One note of caution reguarding their ingredients list. They do include Retinyl Palmitate in their formulation, which has been shown to possibly break down and produce damaging free radicals when explosed to sunlight. That, combined with it's lack of evaluated SPF level, could spell sun damage. As always, be sure to protect yourself from sun damage every day. Use a moisturizer with a high SPF value and if you have pale skin like me, it may be best to avoid anything that could increase your exposure.
I have yet to try any other products from this company but I did ooh and ahh over their wide selection of illumiators and finishing powders when I was buying the foundation. I will for sure be buying this one again in the future but I will still have my eye out for their SPF formulation. If they are smart they will produce that sooner than later!

Product Review: 100% Pure Luminous Primer
By: Megan
Cost: $28
Woohoo and Happy Monday, as promised Meggsquared is back on track and here with a new product review. This time in the hot seat is a primer from our go to company 100% pure.
The full name of the product is Luminous Primer with vitamins + antioxidant's with resveratrol, what a mouth full!! What does that long name mean?? Well, this primer has light reflective pigments to help hide fine lines and wrinkles and while doing that it also helps protect your kisser from free radicals. Sound perfect! I picked this product up about 2 months ago when we attended the class 100% pure held at the Berkley location. For me primer has always been this product that make-up artists and magazines insist will make a huge difference but a product that I never end up buying. Well I was in the splurge type of mood that night and the ingredient list is so appealing in all of 100% Pure products I knew this was something I had to try. When I first started using this I liked the way it felt on my face, it was like I had a layer of velvet put right to my skin, and who doesn't want that?! At the time I was using Bare Escentuals for my foundation (if you don't know what BE is its a mineral makeup) and I had been for years, and its a product that I was fully in love with. I noticed that I didn't like how the makeup was sitting on my face anymore and the makeup was looking like power on my face, a problem I had never had. The only thing I had changed was using this primer, you can imgine my disappointment when a product I wanted to love SOO much didn't match up to my current products. But the story doesn't end there! For the sake of trying new clean products when I ran out of BE I bought Josie Maran's new foundation (which I am obsessed with, as always review coming up) and so I figured I'd give the primer ago again. OH MY GOSH I LOVE IT. The combination of the 2 products is amazing, I love how my face feels and I have no cake-ness at the end of the day. I seriously can touch my face all day and still love how great it feels. I knew how I in love I was with this product when one morning I went to pump it out of the bottle and it hesitated before it came out, and I caught myself having a panic attack because I thought I was out of it. Thank goodness it was a false alarm!
